1. Tell Us About Your Business
Start by contacting us and briefly tell us about your business and what you need help with.
It helps to provide:
-
Type of business and industry
-
Accounting software you currently use, if any
-
Approximate number of monthly transactions
-
Number of bank and credit card accounts
-
Whether your books are current or need cleanup
-
Services you're interested in
Not sure exactly what you need? That's okay. We'll help you determine that during your consultation.

2. Free Initial Consultation
We'll schedule a brief Zoom consultation to learn about your business, your current accounting setup, and the services you need.
We'll discuss your current situation, any bookkeeping or accounting issues you're experiencing, and what you'd like us to handle.
You'll also have an opportunity to ask questions and determine whether iAccountant is the right fit for your business.
No obligation.
3. Review & Pricing
Once we understand your needs, we'll explain the recommended services, what's included, and the applicable pricing.
For ongoing bookkeeping, we'll identify the service level that best fits your business.
If your books require catch-up, cleanup, or other work outside your regular monthly service, we'll discuss the scope and pricing with you before we begin.
Clear scope. Clear pricing. No surprises.
4. Prepare Your Information
Once you're ready to proceed, we'll tell you exactly what information we need. Requirements vary depending on the service, but having the following available can make onboarding faster.
Bookkeeping
You may need:
-
Business bank statements
-
Business credit card statements
-
QuickBooks Online accountant access, or access to your existing accounting software
-
Loan statements, if applicable
-
Payroll information, if applicable
-
Merchant processor information
-
Prior financial statements, if available
Cleanup or Catch-Up Bookkeeping
We may also request:
-
Prior-period bank and credit card statements
-
Existing bookkeeping records
-
Previous financial reports
-
Information about older or unusual transactions
-
Prior accountant or bookkeeper records, if available
Tax Preparation
Depending on the type of return, we may request:
-
Prior-year tax returns
-
Applicable tax forms
-
Business income and expense records
-
Financial statements
-
Estimated tax payment information
-
Other relevant supporting documents
You don't need to figure everything out yourself. We'll provide a specific list based on the services you need.
5. Secure Onboarding
We'll help you provide the appropriate access and documents needed to begin the work.
If you already use QuickBooks Online, we'll help you provide accountant access to your existing QuickBooks company so we can work directly with your books.
If you're new to QuickBooks, we can help you determine the appropriate setup for your business.
Where appropriate, bank and credit card feeds can be connected within QuickBooks to help keep transactions current.
You generally should not need to provide us with your online banking password.
Sensitive financial documents should be provided through the secure method we specify rather than ordinary email.
Once we receive your information, we'll review it and let you know if anything else is needed.
6. We Get to Work
Once onboarding is complete, we'll begin working on your accounts.
Depending on your service, our work may include:
-
Reviewing and categorizing transactions
-
Reconciling bank and credit card accounts
-
Recording necessary accounting adjustments
-
Reviewing accounts for inconsistencies
-
Cleaning up prior bookkeeping
-
Preparing financial statements
-
Preparing applicable tax returns
-
Providing other agreed accounting support
If something isn't clear, we'll ask rather than make unnecessary assumptions about your transactions.
7. Review & Ongoing Support
Once the initial work is complete, we'll review any important items with you and provide the reports or deliverables included with your service.
For ongoing bookkeeping clients, we'll continue maintaining your books according to the agreed schedule.
To help us keep your accounting accurate and current, we may occasionally ask you to:
-
Clarify unfamiliar transactions
-
Provide missing documents
-
Identify business versus personal expenses
-
Tell us about significant purchases, loans, or other transactions
-
Respond to questions that cannot be determined from the accounting records alone
